Paint, Glaze, and Fire…a great way to spend an afternoon
I recently took my 14 year old niece to a place at 127th and Metcalf called Paint, Glaze, and Fire. It is a ceramics/coffee house that allows you to come in and custom paint your own pottery pieces while drinking expensive fruity drinks. While I feel that the coffee house portion of the place is a bit expensive, it is a nice touch for a place where you will spend a minimum of 2-3 hours.
The pottery portion of the business is great. They have a variety of pieces ranging in design from holiday decor to serving pieces. They are all reasonably priced at $5.00 and up. There is a studio fee that goes on top of your pieces, but that goes to cover the consumables like paints and brushes. For children under 16, the studio fee is $6.00. For those over 16, the fee is $8.00. The nice thing is that you can paint as many pieces as you want but only pay one studio fee.
Another selling point to this place is that they offer art camps during the summer that teach glass work along with ceramics. Some of the pieces I saw while I was there ranged from a simple mosaic picture frame to a rather ornate bird house. They also offer packages for parties like birthdays, bridal showers, and bachelorette parties. Not to mention, they offer group packages for scout troops and other organizations. Another thing that really impressed me was that they had fun daily specials. For example, if you wear your pajamas into the store before 10 a.m. on Saturday, you get half price studio fees.
I really enjoyed this place. My niece had a good time too. This would be a great outing for all ages as they have things that anyone can paint. For more information, check out their website at paintglazeandfire.com
